Nexus phones have been going through a constant line of success. One the other hand, OnePlus X is probably the phone that got the most attention in Q4 of 2015. Let’s do a comparison of these two models and see if we can call a clear winner!
First thing – the design. Nexus 5X looks similar to the Nexus 5 or its bigger brother. The plastic back may not be the most high-end looking thing you will see, but it is a genuinely good design. On the other hand, the OnePlus X has a metallic frame and an onyx glass back, which definitely gives it a wow look. However, what many people will find annoying is that the onyx glass is a fingerprint magnet – and even though it looks good, it goes on many people’s nerves.
In terms of the display, the OnePlus X has a 5″ display, compared to the 5.2″ display of the Nexus 5X. The bigger screen results in a slightly lower pixel density, but the difference is not notable.
Under the hood of Nexus 5X, you will find the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 octa-core and 2GB of RAM. The OnePlus X uses a little bit older chipset, i.e. the Qualcomm Snapdragon 801, which doesn’t mean in any case that it is bad. It also has 3GB of RAM and the possibility to extend the internal storage.
What many people will find disappointing regarding OnePlus X is the lack of fingerprint scanner. The fingerprint scanner was there on the OnePlus Two model, but they decided not to feature it on the X model. However, what you can find on the OnePlus X is the alert slider, that even though it doesn’t sound so exciting, it turned out to be a really useful thing in practise.
One the other hand, the Nexus 5X has a fingerprint scanner, that is located on the back, below the camera.
Speaking of the camera, the Nexus 5X comes with a 12.3-megapixel back camera and 5-megapixel front camera. The OnePlus X has a 13-megapixel back camera and 8-megapixel front camera. The camera on both phone is decent, but in any case not perfect.
It is obvious that we can not call a clear winner, but you would rather have to choose what suits you best. The last factor that may help you make up your mind is the price. The OnePlus X costs $249 for the Onyx Glass variant, and as some speculations say, the invite system will be dropped soon. One the other hand, the Nexus 5X costs $379 for the 16GB variant, and $429 for the 36GB variant.
