Since we live in a digital era, it is only natural to increase the presence of electronic devices in schools. Undoubtedly, modern technologies are a great tool that can be used at schools, and many are aware of that. For that purpose, two years ago, Google launched a service under the PlayStore, especially for educational app that can be used in schools.
It seemed like a really good thing to do, until now, when Google announced that Play for Education will be officially shut on 14th March. The closing of this service is due to the little interest.
“As of March 14 or later, Google will no longer sell Google Play for Education licenses. We’re committed to providing schools with the best-in-class tools for the classroom, including Chromebooks” – Google spokesperson
Still, the apps that are available on the Play for Education service will be available to download from the developers, and you will continue to get support directly from them. On the other hand, there’s Chromebooks, which according to the official announcement will be set as a focus point for Google.
In any case, the tablets in schools won’t be forgotten by Google. And in fact, letting go on one of the services and focus on the other one is a good thing to do, because after all, Chromebooks are much better to use on tablet for educational purposes.
