Encrypt Your Device In a Very Simple Way

The entire Apple vs. FBI drama from the past few weeks really got back into focus the encryption matter. After Snowden, thing started moving in a very different direction, and with the last events, many people put their attention back on encryption. It is not necessary to overstate the importance of protecting your data. After all, that is your personal data and it should remain accessible only to you.

If you would like to encrypt your phone, there is a simple way to do it.

Apple introduced their encryption back in 2014, so you just need to set it up. For iOS user, all you need to do to encrypt your phone is the following:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Choose Touch ID and Passcode (for devices that don’t have the fingerprint scanner – “Passcode”)
  3. Choose “Turn Passcode On” option
  4. Enter your password and save

The newer Android devices are also encrypted. To set the encryption up, you should do the following:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to “Security”
  3. Choose “Screen Lock”
  4. Enter your password and save

However, for older Android devices, you would need to do the encryption manually. Here’s what you should do:

  1. Go to Settings
  2. Go to “Security”
  3. Choose “Encrypt phone”
